Pioneer Jewish merchant who moved first from England to Albany, N.Y, and later to Montreal. He was most likely the first Jew in Detroit, Mich., and survived the Pontiac uprising. William Edgar (1736-1820) was an Irish-born merchant of Detroit, Michigan, where he was a financial agent for the British Army post.
